Micromobility Device Products Testing and Certification Information

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Micromobility Safety Guidelines

On December 20, 2022, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has called for manufacturers, retailers, importers and distributors of micromobility devices to comply with the UL safety standards which includes devices covered by UL 2272 and UL 2849. This addresses the type of products listed below:

  • E-Scooters
  • E-bicycles
  • E-unicycles
  • E-skateboards
  • Hoverboards
  • Certified to the applicable consensus safety standards, specifically, ANSI/CAN/UL 2272 – Standard for Electrical Systems for Personal E-Mobility Devices dated February 26, 2019, or ANSI/CAN/UL 2849 – Standard for Safety for Electrical Systems for eBikes dated June 17, 2022.

In order for new and existing sellers to start listing products identified as one of the micromobility devices listed above, seller must provide the following documentation to their account managers or directly to the Marketplace Content Team at mktp.content@newegg.com:

  • Devices are certified to the applicable UL standards from a credited testing laboratory

Once the appropriate documents have been sent for review and item has been approved to be listed, seller must identify the product to be UL Certified or applicable to UL standards on the item description, bullet point description or through A+ Content. Please see a few examples below:
