1.Basic Concepts
1.1 What is a Variant Product
A variant product refers to a group of items that share the same core attributes but differ by specific options (e.g., color or size).
These items are grouped into a single product listing, allowing buyers to choose options such as color and size from dropdowns—making browsing and purchasing more convenient.
1.2 What is a Variant Attribute
A variant attribute is a defining characteristic used to differentiate variations of the same product. Common variant attributes include:
- Color
- Size
- Capacity
- Style
- Material
📌 Each variant product can include up to three variant attributes, e.g., “Color + Size + Style”.
1.3 What is a Variant Attribute Option
A variant attribute option is the specific value of a variant attribute. For example:
- For the attribute “Color”, options might be: Red, Blue, Black
- For the attribute “Size”, options might be: S, M, L, XL
Each unique combination of options corresponds to one actual product.
1.4 Ownership Definition
Newegg uses ownership permissions to ensure data consistency and control over variant information:
🔹 Product Information Ownership
- Sellers with product ownership can edit the product’s title, images, descriptions, and other core data.
🔹 Variant Information Ownership
- Sellers with variant ownership can configure or modify variant attributes and options (e.g., add or change “Color” or “Size”).
- A seller owns the variant information if they have ownership of all products in that variant group.
- If a variant option already exists with another seller’s product, sellers without ownership cannot create new options, but may complete their product info and submit to join an existing variant group.
📌 If you receive a “No permission” message when setting up variants, please verify whether you have the appropriate ownership. For assistance, contact Newegg Content Team at mktp.content@newegg.com.

✅ Add New Products to Variant Attributes
For each variant combination (e.g., Color: Red, Size: M), fill in the required product details directly in the variant product list, including:
-
- Product Title
- Seller SKU
- Manufacturer Part Number (MPN)
- UPC
- Price, Inventory, Image, etc.
✅ Add Existing Products to Variant Group
You can also link an existing product to a specific variant attribute combination:

- Click “Add Existing Product”.
- In the popup dialog, enter your Seller SKU and click Search to fetch the product.
- Once the product info is loaded, click OK to add it to the variant group.
📌 Make sure the existing product matches the brand, category, and condition of the variant group; otherwise, it cannot be added.
✅ Ownership Restrictions
- Only sellers who own the product title (Product Info Ownership) can create a variant group for that product.
- If a variant option already exists with another seller’s product, sellers without ownership cannot create new options, but may complete their product info and submit to join an existing variant group.
- Sellers who own Variant Info Ownership (i.e., own all products in the variant group) have the following permissions:
- Add or modify variant attributes (e.g., Color, Size, Capacity).
- Add or remove variant attribute options (e.g., add new Color: Green).
- Unlink products from the existing variant group.
